I'm a multi media designer, video artist, and performer from Shanghai, China. Now I'm a postgraduate student at Tongji university, which has one of the most famous design colleges in China. Allison Holt (US)
Allison Holt is an American artist whose work explores, constructs and visualizes contemporary and traditional systems of knowledge, creating forms that expose hybrid realities through the use of video, sculpture, performance and diagrams. Her work emerges out of the rigorous interrogation of existing philosophies and cognitive processes, examining the relationships between reality, identity, cognition and illusion. She holds a B.A. from The Evergreen State

College (Olympia, WA) and an M.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art (Boston, MA). Holt has exhibited in venues such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Boston CyberArts Festival, the House Of Natural Fiber (Yogyakarta), Howard Yezerski Gallery (Boston), Institute Seni Indonesia (Surakarta), Upgrade!Boston (Melbourne, AUS), and has held solo shows at Axiom Gallery for New and Experimental Media (Boston) and Cemeti Art House (Yogyakarta) where she was a 2010 artist in residence. Her other residencies include the Experimental Television Center (NY) and the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (CA). Holt is a researcher/developer for ZooMorph, a project by new media artist Lisa Jevbratt, and was a 2009-J. William Fulbright Fellow in Central Java, Indonesia.

"In my research, I try to find a debatable balance between scientific and phenomenological human experience. I#8217m interested in the idea of knowledge as a living thing, independent of the human mind" driven by questions like, "How does knowledge behave? How does it interact with us? Does it court us? Does it influence our behavior? Under what conditions does it like to come to us? How can we understand its limits? its potential?," I seek to create situations in which this thing, with its own character, habits, behavior patterns, and environment, can be imagined and felt."

moddr_ (NL)
moddr_ came about in 2007 when a group of alumni from the Media Design MA course, at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, decided there was room for another 'new media' place in the city next to the already established and rather famous v2_lab. We wanted to create a place that is more accessible to young artists and hackers, without the need for overblown project descriptions and ridiculous budget applications.

The name 'moddr_' resembles the dutch word 'modder', meaning mud, and we chose this name to show that a large part of our practice involves the modification (modding) and re-creation of already existing technology. We tend to dislike the idea of contemporary media being labeled 'new', and it is part of our mission to display a critical perspective on issues related to this through our artistic practice - basically the lab consists of some very geeky fine-artists.

In terms of infrastructure we are part of the WORM venue in Rotterdam, where we function as the in-house medialab.

WORM is a Rotterdam based artist collective, a venue and a workspace for music, film and new media. Born under the stars of punk, dada, fluxus, situationism and futurism, WORM has grown to a tenacious organisation that combines the "Do-It-Yourself" 4 mentality of it's ancestors with ultra-pragmatism and good bookkeeping. The output of WORM is film, radio, concerts, performances, web-projects, installations, an array of tactile media and a 24/7 webstation. WORM focuses on OpenSource, re-cycled material, Superuse, seriousness and fun.

moddr_ participation in Cellsbutton#05 is supported by Mondriaan Foundation.
