Monday, 27 August 2007 Workshop Session Wild Animal Rescue Center – Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Jogja (PPSJ), Yogyakarta 02:00 PM For two day period, Cellsbutton#01 was held in PPSJ – Wild Animal Rescue Center in Kulonprogo District located on west side of Yogyakarta. It took 45 minutes of travelling using car or motorcycle to reach the location. PPSJ is a place for rehabilitates wild animals that have been taken away from its habitat by irresponsible human. After the animals were healthy and able to live independently, PPSJ will free the animals to its natural habitats. The workshop session was given inside the auditorium of PPSJ by Adam Paul Anderson (Adam) from United States of America, Jin Hee Yoo (Jinny) from Korea and Lintang Enrico (Lintang) from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Adam is a Western Classical Composer, Jinny is a student learning in ethnomusicology and Lintang is an electronic musician. Together they were giving a workshop for local people of Kulonprogo about Indonesian traditional music composition and compose it in electronic music instruments. Using traditional musical instrument such as ketipung, gamelan etc. Adam, Jinny and Lintang showed them how to record sounds from the instrument and mixed them in the computer. Also they explained how to edit audio samples and use sound effects for the audio composition. The session was closed with some of the audience try the instrument and mixed it themselves with guidance from Adam, Jinny and Lintang.
Monday, 27 August 2007 CELLSONIC 2007 Wild Animal Rescue Center – Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Jogja (PPSJ), Yogyakarta 21:00 PM Cellsonic is probably the main performance in Cellsbutton#01 – Yogyakarta International Media Art Festival. It was held on the lake of PPSJ inside an area for rehabilitating eagles before they were freed to wild habitats. The lake was divided into 2 sections by an empty eagle cage with the size of 256 square meters space and 16 meters high. HONF collaborating with Blass Group build 2 stages on top of the lake for this performance. The first was a 64 square meters square shaped stage located inside the cage. The other was a rectangle shaped located in front of the cage with 3 meters wide and 20 meters long, bridging the lake. The inner stage was for the visual performance, and front stage was used for the electronic music performance. Visuals equipments provided by Kalasan Multimedia and Video Art were using 8 LCD projectors with the visuals were displayed at huge screens attached on the cage. And for the output sounds used 10,000 watts of power. The performance started at 09:00 PM with seed or plant for a public ticket entry. It was meant for land rehabilitation program in Kulonprogo developed by PPSJ and HONF. The seeds will later be used to be planted in PPSJ area. The audience then took 3 minutes walk from the main gate to reach the lake where the performers greeted them with non stop electronic music and visuals. The visual artists that were involved were; Vjnumberone (http://vjnumberone.wordpress.com), The Departure (http://raphaeldontknee.multiply.com), Lostsiska miz. Digital(i)llusion (http://myspace.com/manifesto_dj), Translantic Lab, VJ Public Space, VJ Jessica, Video Hack, The Projectors, Kevin and Jack RyBN (http://rybn.org). The music performance was started with DJ Alan followed by DJ Navis-Energyroom, Terror Incognita (http://myspace.com/terrorincognitanoise), Monotron Prostitute, God Mode (http://weareperfectdrugs.com), Krezikultur (http://myspace.com/krezikulturland), Electrocore (http://myspace.com/electrocore_indonesia), Natural Airwaves, Uncle 303, DJ Vinc, Hengky Strawberry (http://hengkystrawberry.multiply.com), Applestereo, Soundboutique and MC Erno. The party lasted until 05:00 AM in the morning with nonstop music and visual performance. It was a great party with incredible stage settings. Accidentally, it was also the night when Mars positioning was closest to earth. Thanks for Mars visiting to see Cellsonic. Anyway it was a great moment for everybody that was there.
Tuesday, 28 August 2007 VJRI (Visual Jockey Republik Indonesia Meeting) Wild Animal Rescue Center – Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Jogja (PPSJ), Yogyakarta 11:00 AM After wild party from last night, all the VJs gathered in the garden of PPSJ. VJRI is a VJ community in Indonesia. The Departure, Translantic Lab, Public Space, Jessica, Video Hack, Rootsdigitalized and Modusoperandi are the members of VJRI. Together with Vjnumberone, Lostsiska and The Projectors they were having a discussion, sharing knowledge and exchanging experiences in VJ-ing. They also made future plans for VJRI national and international networking. Euro-Asian Channel Meeting Wild Animal Rescue Center – Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Jogja (PPSJ), Yogyakarta 02:00 PM Another meeting that was part of Cellsbutton#01 events was held on this day. Euro – Asian Channel (EA Channel) meeting for future plans discussion with Cellsbutton#01 artists and officials. Several EA Channel members involved in this meeting were Ariadna Alsina Tarres (Ari) from Spain, Selina Shah (Selina) from United Kingdom, Therese Schuleit from Germany, Clare Shanahan from Ireland, and Venzha from Indonesia. Also joined the meeting were Kévin Bartoli (Kevin) and Jean-Marie Boyer (Jack) from RyBN, France, Marika Dermineur (Marika) from Incident.net, France and Brian Sherry (Brian) from Ireland. From The House of Natural Fiber representative were Venzha, Tommy Surya (Imot), Irene Agrivine (Ira), Istasius Praditya (Istas), Bagus Tri Budiarto (Bagus), Julian Abraham (Togar), Raden Andang (Andang), Arghaa Mahendra (Aga), Agus Kurniawan (Agus), Ferial Alif (Ferial), Raphael Donny (Donny), Benny Wicaksono (Benny) and Andreas Siagian (Andreas). In this meeting, EA Channel presented their objectives in making future media art collaborative projects. Despite the physical distance of each artist that was involved, EA Channel would like to enable collaboration even in disparate parts of the globe. Art pieces proposals in EA Channel will be responded by anyone who had interest in making collaboration out of those idea. Using internet fasilities for e-mailings, meetings and even exchanging informations, it is now possible to create anything regardles of substantial physical distance. By these facts, EA Channel would like to invite any artists who are interested in making collaborative art pieces.
