Workshop Session
Faculty of Informatics Engineering, Duta Wacana Christian University of Yogyakarta
10:00 AM
2nd day of presentations and workshops held in auditorium hall Duta Wacana Christian University of Yogyakarta (UKDW). Therese Schuleit (Therese); (http://plueh.net) from Germany started the first session with a presentation about her past works. Therese is a graphic designer and studying audiovisual in Media Academy of Media Arts, Cologne, Germany. In this session, Therese was showing her simple creative works such as exploring structure of letters turning on their axis and becoming obsolete. In one of her work called ‘Four Dimensions of A Shoe’, Therese use a small remote control car with four cameras mounted on it. She controls the car through a space of a shoe shop and the simultaneous transmitted videos from the cameras dissolving the architectural properties of the shoe shop.

Therese’s presentation was followed by Robot Technology and Artificial Intelligence presentation by Pradhono Rakhmono Aji (Aji) and Achmad Pradekso (Achmad). It was more interesting because UKDW also displaying a robotic arm controlled by a computer interface. An interactive discussion about robotic technology happened because of it.

After Aji and Achmad’s, Hasan Murod (Murod) gave presentation of his works specially hardware and programming. Murod is a programmer specializes in C++ program language and made several works such as interactive camera installation called ‘Artificial Intelligence’. In this project he made an installation using a camera as a sensor that could generate live visual and sound capturing signals from movements and sounds processed by software. The software was created by Murod using C++ programming language.

RyBN from France closing the session with Antidatamining project presentation. Like the previous day, they were showing more thoroughly the audio visual output that was generated from Internet recoverable data. Internet is then compared to a gigantic database, a “datawarehouse”. The types of recovered data are: geographical, ecological, social, economic, financial and geopolitical. Data are stored in a large database, and then processed using Data Mining genetic algorithms. This method allows establishing several « meaningful » – or particularly important – cross correlations. The wide range of used data, defines the project's multiple investigation fields, including sociological, geopolitical and economic fields.

After the presentation, there was a short discussion between teachers in UKDW, audience and the artists. J. Karel Tampubolon, SSI, MT as host of UKDW showing their hospitality and interest on media art with showing some of their students works in technology research. They were looking forward to the next HONF festival called Yogyakarta International Videoworks Festival #03 (YIVF#03) which will be held soon in November 2007.
