S.A.T.U Start in Next Wave 2010

IMG_2622In May 2010, HONF is participating for Next Wave Festival in Melbourne, Australia. HONF will be represented by Venzha Christ, Irene Agrivina and Andreas Siagian for the festival that is curated by Jeff Khan. With "No Risk To Great" theme for the festival, HONF activities will include a residency, workshops and an exhibition throughout the program. Jeff Khan's statement in Next Wave media release, “What are the real risks of our time, what are the risks worth taking, and what is our role
as individuals, and as artists, in relation to them? Where is the line between our own personal, moral and ethical worlds, and the codes and principles which circulate in the broader context of contemporary culture? What is our capacity to draw, hold or cross this line?" With this theme, HONF is included as one of eleven Artist Run Initiatives (ARIs) which consists five ARIs from Asia and six from Australia.


As a keynote project in Next Wave Festival, All of ARIs in will be running the Art House Meat Market for a "World's Fair - styled exhibition and residency project". The event itself is called Structural Integrity, which is Next Wave's biggest collaboration with the Asia-Pasific Region in the festival's 25-years history. The five ARIs from Asia are; Art Centre Ongoing (Tokyo/Japan), Post-Museum (Singapore), Vitamin Creative Space (Guangzhou, China), TUTOK (Manila, The Philippines), The House Of Natural Fiber - HONF (Yogyakarta, Indonesia) and six ARIS from Australia are Boxcopy Contemporary Art Space (Brisbane), FELTspace (Adelaide), Locksmith Project Space (Sydney), West Space (Melbourne) Six_a Artist Run Initiative (Hobart) and Y3K (Melbourne). Each ARIs will be given a space for the exhibition that will be open for public and held through the end of the festival programs.

For this festival, HONF is preparing a project called Saturn Analogy of Trans - Urgency (S.A.T.U). The project is a combination of an interactive audio visual installation, workshops on community-base organization, and also a presentation on HONF activities since 1999. S.A.T.U is taken from the phenomenon of Hexagon shapes that occurs in natural environment and its' geometrical shape is used in ancient civilization throughout the globe. The recent appearance of hexagon shapes is seen in the north polar of Saturn where the shape have a diameter of more than four earth added together is captured by NASA's Cassini spacecraft. This will be the core of HONF exploration of in S.A.T.U project, which will present the installation in Next Wave Festival. The installation will experiments sound inductions and its' effects to life form and matters. The installation will be available in Next Wave Festival from 13 May - 30 May 2010 in Meat Market Art Space, Melbourne Australia. Currently Irene Agrivina and Andreas Siagian are in Melbourne for the residency program of Next Wave 2010. While, Venzha Christ will be joining later in early May for the Exhibition and Workshop programs.
